KAT-TUN’s Akanishi Jin’s Return Conference

Member of Johnny’s popular group KAT-TUN, Akanishi Jin (22), who went on a hiatus, held a press conference on the 20th and announced his resumption of activity.

Smiling every now and then, the obviously nervous Akanishi revealed his intention to “do (his) best, the way (he) wanted to from the start.”

“We can finally stand six in a row again,” commented a delighted Kamenashi Kazuya (21) and the other members, also present at the conference.

Last October, Akanishi announced his hiatus and went to the United States, citing language studies as his motivation. Attending a language school in Los Angeles, he returned to Japan on the 19th of this month. At the conference, in response to requests from reporters, he said, in English, “I’m sorry for the confusion that I’ve caused” and “I do my best my work[sic]”

Akanishi will appear in front of fans on the 21, at the ongoing KAT-TUN concert in Sendai.

Akanishi Returns to Japan Under Tight Secrecy, To Resume Entertainment Activity

Member of popular idol group KAT-TUN, Akanishi Jin(22), who went on a hiatus from entertainment in order to study language abroad, returned to Japan on a Narita Airport-bound ANA flight from Los Angeles at 5.10pm on the 19th. It is the 6th month since the 13 October press conference where he announced his hiatus. On the 20th, he will attend a press conference in the city center with the rest of KAT-TUN and announce his resuming of entertainment activities . There have been adjustments made in preparation for his genuine return in the group’s Tokyo Dome concert in June.

<> In satellite feeds from the airport, Akanishi showed up after all other passengers had disembarked, with airport workers in front and behind him. VIP treatment as before, hiatus nothwithstanding.

He wore a white t-shirt under a black jacket, sneakers and jeans. Chest exposed even with the t-shirt, his wildness and sexiness was still evident despite the simple dressing. His trademark long hair had grown even longer, and had been curled at the shoulders.

Wearing sunglasses, he was fiddling around with his portable music player. Amid the shouts of “Welcome back!” by a group of around 10 journalists, he lowered his head, and had no further comment to questions. Even when asked questions such as “What were the results of your studies abroad?”, “Do you plan to stage a comeback?” and “Say something to the fans”, his lips were firmly pressed into a tight line, and his stiff expression indissoluble.

Only when he was asked, “Will you live all the way to the end now” [translator’s note: ‘Ima mo girigiri de ikite imasu ka?” ], in relation to the lyrics of debut song “Real Face” where he sang ♪ “girigiri de itsumo ikiteita kara…” [Because I’ll always live all the way till the end], did his features finally soften, and he walked briskly towards customs smiling.

It was half a year ago that he suddenly announced his hiatus right at the peak of his popularity. He had emphasized, “I’m not confused”, and had decided to go abroad to study “because I’d like to learn and absorb what I’d never thought about before, and what I’d never seen before”. Although he had not revealed his study destination nor other details, he had been spotted in Los Angeles late last October.

According to sources in-the-know, his return to Japan this time is no one-off thing, but with the full intention to resume his entertainment activities for real. It seems that he had decided that his study trip was to be done with “within half a year”. Staff had started preparing for his return since late February this year, to the extent of cancelling greeting meetings with sponsors and the like, until Jin returned to Japan.

Right now, KAT-TUN carries out activities as a group of 5. They started their national tour this month with a 3 day concert in Nagoya. There is a high chance that Akanishi will stage a ‘stage comeback’ at their Tokyo Dome concerts on the 2nd, 3rd, 16th and 17th of June. Not only does the Tokyo Dome carry a large sentimental significance as the place of their milestone CD Debut Concert last March, it is also a very ideal setting to stage their new start. In the press conference about his return to Japan set for 1.30pm on the 20th, Akanishi is expected to appeal for the resumation of activities as well as report on the results of his study abroad.

Akanishi Jin(22) of popular Johnny’s group KAT-TUN,who stopped all entertainment activities in October last year, returned to Japan on an ANA flight from Los Angeles on the 19th. As his language immersion trip abroad was scheduled to last half a year, there is a high chance that he will resume entertainment activities.

In October last year, Akanishi made the sudden announcement that he would stop his activities in the entertainment industry in order to go abroad for language studies. He then travelled to Los Angeles and enrolled in a local language school. At a press conference before he left, (he revealed that_ although he was to study abroad for half a year, it was still unconfirmed when he would return, although the management company confirmed that he had neither resigned nor was leaving the group.

During Akanishi’s absence, KAT-TUN continued activities with 5 members. Today is the second day their first album with 5 members, ‘cartoon KAT-TUN II You’,is on sale.

A special preview of ‘Kiiroi Namida’(directed by Inudou Isshin, opening in April), a movie that stars popular group Arashi took place in the city on the 1st. There, Aiba Masaki (24), who plays a fledgling singer in the movie, disclosed that he planned to strum his guitar and sing as his character Inoue Shouichi during Arashi’s Dome Tour (at Kyousera Dome Osaka and Tokyo Dome) , which starts on the 21st.

The movie is a coming –of-age film that showcases the trials and tribulations of fledgling artists singer Aiba, manga artist Kazunari Ninomiya (23), artist Ohno Satoshi (26) and novelist Sakurai Sho (25), as well as rice shop employee Matsumoto Jun (23).Aiba’s character Inoue Shouichi sells his favourite guitar in order to survive, but doesn’t give up the path to becoming an outstanding singer no matter how bad things get.

Aiba often said, “I hardly play the guitar, so it was hard”, but half a year after filming ended, he says, “I still play (the guitar)”. Such is the depth of his love for his character. In the movie’s soundtrack which goes on sale on the 4th, there is a recording of Aiba’s solo “Namida no Nagareboshi”.

The 5 members of Arashi have promised never to debut as solo artistes, but the other 4 have agreed with this proposal of Aiba’s. To Aiba, who revealed the planned surprise in his solo performance, the other 4 members interrupted, “If you talk about it, it’s not a surprise any more~!”

It’s busy but fun


A pair of deep, refreshing eyes that fit the phrase “*powerful eyes” perfectly. A calm voice. Cool, by all impressions.

Ken, whom he plays in his first drama serial after a year, is, on the contrary, far from ‘cool’; an unreliable man when it comes to love, unable to be honest even to the childhood friends so important to him. He says of this character, “ It’s a fresh and lively drama, so acting in it was fun. (My character and I) are around the same age, and the era I went back to (through a time slip) felt really realistic.”

He’s both an idol and an actor. “I’d to be both as much as I can”, he says, despite his extremely packed schedule. NEWS, which he belongs to, is right in the middle of their national tour, with their new song scheduled to be out on the 21st of this month. Apart from the drama serial, there are still the recordings for music programmes that go on as usual. He literally has no time to even sleep. Even so, he still laughs it off as a “once in a while thing”, showing no sign of weariness.

“I’d like to have an existence that energizes the people who see me, so it doesn’t matter how I become.”

It is the presence of this firm goal that makes him put in all effort, be it in his dramas, songs, or variety programmes. As determined as he describes himself, the strength of his will shows clearly through, in the depths of those cool eyes.

I wouldn’t if I could. I wouldn’t exactly want to do the same things again, and even if something bad happened (in the past), I’d think I am what I am right now because they happened. Though I would go back to the recent past, like maybe yesterday, or the day before.

Where do you usually memorise your scripts? (Aichi-ken, P—chi hime-san)
A
Whether it’s at home or in the car, location isn’t a problem, I’d memorise (my scripts) whenever I have the time. I’ve even done so at concert halls.

You’re co-starring with Nagasawa Masami-san again. What impression do you have of her? (Kanagawa-ken, Erippe-san)
A
She looked really lovely in a wedding dress. She was 2 years my junior in high school, and she’s grown.

Ken (Yamashita Tomohisa) tursns up at his childhood friend, Rei’s (Nagasawa Masami) wedding. Just when he hopes to correct his life, a mysterious man appears, and they slip back in time through a photograph of a slide. From there, he struggles to change his life and make amends to his love with Rei.

Tackey & Tsubasa to Appear in ‘One Piece’

Tackey&Tsubasa are to ‘co-star’ with the characters of Fuji TV’s anime 'One Piece’ (Sundays 9.30pm). The duo will appear in the opening sequence of the 1 April ( 7 April in Kansai) in anime-characterized form, dancing and hanging out with main character Rufie and his friends, as the theme song, “Crazy Rainbow”, plays. This is the first time a collaboration between current artistes and the anime has been achieved since the latter started airing, although (Tackey & Tsubasa) sang the ending song in 2004.

"I’m really happy. The hairstyle’s exactly the same!” Takizawa Hideaki said, delighted. Imai Tsubasa, too, expressed his joy. “I can’t wait till the air date!”

Koyama Keiichiro (22) of NEWS graduated from the History and Geography course of Meiji University’s humanities department on the 26th. ‘It’s not a graduation with more (school) ahead, but the very very end,” he said, relieved.

Selected as one of Meiji University’s model students due to his juggling work and school, he was given a special award at his graduation ceremony at Nihon Budokan today. About the unexpected reward, he was genuinely delighted. “It’s great, (knowing that) I didn’t do the wrong thing after all!”

Meanwhile, what about his love life on campus? “I welcomed it, but…” His plans for the future? “I’ve studied really hard so I’d like to tour Asia. NEWS has been revived, so if it’s possible, I hope we can have concerts in Asia.”

Upon learning that NEWS’ first new song after their return to action, “Hoshi wo Mezashite” debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Oricon Singles chart slated for April 2, he smiled. “It’s a super day.” Double happiness, indeed.
